New Washington DC poster completed! Celebrating the Cherry Blossom and Kite Festival.

18" x 24" Washington DC poster

Spring in Washinton D.C.

Washington D.C. embodies the spirit of American Freedom and is most beautiful each spring during the Cherry Blossom Kite Festival. 2012 is a special year since the country will be celebrating the centennial year of the gift of the Cherry trees from Japan.

This is Joe Barsin's most recent artwork. It is the first in a series that will be celebrating the Mid-Atlantic Region.

My goal with this illustration is to show the excitement and beauty of this time of year in Washington DC. Eva and I lived in Alexandria, VA in the mid-1990s and we loved taking the Metro up to the Mall for the Kite Festival. We have gone back recently with our two boys (pictures below). It is a magical place and time for Washington. The soft pinkish glow from all the cherry blossoms and the beautiful and elaborate kites framed in the crisp blue sky above the Mall are truly breathtaking. Strolling along the Tidal pool and taking a leisurely paddle boat ride brings back fond memories.

I am currently working on "Baltimore" which will focus on the 1812-2012 Bicentenial celebration of the War of 1812 and the 1814 writing of the "Star-Spangled Banner" during the British bombardment of Fort McHenry.

Thank you for looking and please feel free to write a comment. Sincerely, Joe Barsin
