Our "Fish 4 A Cure" Logo in Diamonds!

JEB Design's non profit logo design for F4AC made into jewerly

Pretty cool to see the logo we designed in diamonds! We'll soon be revealing the commemorative poster to promote the "Fish 4 A Cure" event on 11/5/11. It is great to see the Annapolis community getting behind such a great cause.

Zachary's Jewelers have designed this beautiful pendant for F4AC to place into the auction on November 5th fundraiser. Learn more about F4AC here.

JEB Design believes in giving back to our community. We donated our design services to "Fish 4 A Cure" since we know how important it is to have a professional identity to help raise funds. A stong identity conveys stability and commitment for an organization. This is all important in the non-profit fundraising task, especially during a recession. Below we show the identity system for F4AC. A good identity system is more then just a logo. It needs to work in numerous colors, print and online along with vertical and horizontal placement. Once these are developed, vendor files are developed so that the volunteer team can develop effective promotions on their own.

New Washington DC poster completed! Celebrating the Cherry Blossom and Kite Festival.

18" x 24" Washington DC poster

Spring in Washinton D.C.

Washington D.C. embodies the spirit of American Freedom and is most beautiful each spring during the Cherry Blossom Kite Festival. 2012 is a special year since the country will be celebrating the centennial year of the gift of the Cherry trees from Japan.

This is Joe Barsin's most recent artwork. It is the first in a series that will be celebrating the Mid-Atlantic Region.

My goal with this illustration is to show the excitement and beauty of this time of year in Washington DC. Eva and I lived in Alexandria, VA in the mid-1990s and we loved taking the Metro up to the Mall for the Kite Festival. We have gone back recently with our two boys (pictures below). It is a magical place and time for Washington. The soft pinkish glow from all the cherry blossoms and the beautiful and elaborate kites framed in the crisp blue sky above the Mall are truly breathtaking. Strolling along the Tidal pool and taking a leisurely paddle boat ride brings back fond memories.

I am currently working on "Baltimore" which will focus on the 1812-2012 Bicentenial celebration of the War of 1812 and the 1814 writing of the "Star-Spangled Banner" during the British bombardment of Fort McHenry.

Thank you for looking and please feel free to write a comment. Sincerely, Joe Barsin

FUNWORLD magazine cover illustration for February 2011

FUNWORLD magazine cover illustrationThe February issue for FUNWORLD focused on Environmental issues that effected the Attractions Industry. We decided to go with a graphic approach to the illustration. I focussed on creative typography to help make for an interesting cover.

I have placed the original sketch that was proposing a more of an illustration approach. Maybe we will try this version in 2012? Let me know what you think.

FUNWORLD magazine cover illustrations, May 2010 and 2011

FUNWORLD cover illustration, May 2010

FUNWORLD cover illustration, May 2011Sketch for the FUNWORLD, May 2010 coverSketch for the FUNWORLD, May 2011 coverIllustrated the front cover of the May 2010 and 2011 issues of FUNWORLD. A monthly magazine published by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).

I have been fortunate to work closley with FUNWORLD's Senior Editor, Jeremy Schoolfield, on 4 cover illustrations over the past 2 years. The first cover we worked on together is showcased here. It was such a success that Jeremy brought me back for the 2011 Holiday issue cover.

The theme of these 2 issues (May 2010 & 2011) was to illustrate the 2 important Holidays that bring in allot of revenue for the Attractions industry. The Halloween and Christmas Holidays are very different visually so the challenge was trying to bridge these two conceptually.

I have enclosed my original sketches that the editorial team at FUNWORLD reviewed and provide input. You can see how the sketches are pretty close to the final product.

This alternative background cover was provided, as well. FUNWORLD went with the golden version.

Blue Angels Over Annapolis, USNA Commissioning Week illustration

A tribute to the the Blue Angels and the US Naval Academy's Commissioning Week in Annapolis, Maryland.

Blue Angels Over AnnapolisUSNA graduationA week of U.S. Naval Academy festivities accompanies the Graduation and Commissioning ceremonies at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. Each year, more than 1,000 of America’s best and brightest young men and women graduate and receive their commissions in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. This illustration pays tribute to the excitement and energy the Commissioning Week brings to Annapolis, Maryland.

Blue Angels air showThe hallmark of the week is the Blue Angles air show within their F/A-18 Hornets over the Severn River. Sadly, in 2011 and 2012 the show has been cancelled but the spirit lives on in this tribute! Fingers are crossed for 2013!

The Blue Angels also fly a formation flight over the stadium during graduation.

The Herndon Monument ClimbAnother memorable tradition that is understated in this poster is the Herndon Memorial Climb. The freshman (Plebes) form a human pyramid to climb to the top of a tall gray obelisk monument that is covered in grease to replace a first year student's dixie cup hat with a midshipman's hat.

The creative challenge for this illustration was to capture the energy of the Blue Angels in flight along with the week long events of Commissioning Week while, at the same time, showcasing the beautiful setting of the US Naval Academy within Annapolis. I have placed some of my reference photos that helped me illustrate an accurate portrayal with a little artist license thrown in. I hope you enjoy this illustration.

Redesign of Bay Journal's masthead

The Bay Journal turns 20 with this month's issue. JEB Design updated the monthly publication's masthead to better reflect their environmental mission to highlight issues that effect the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

Here is The Bay Journal's previous masthead treatment. The background image was the same for many years:

Below are the concepts JEB Design presented to the Bay Journal's edititorial team:

Below is the masthead treatment that was approved. Every monthly issue is updated with a new image of the Chesapeake Bay area. Our goal was to keep the Bay Journal's masthead visually fresh from month to month.
