What an exhilarating day! Joe was at the United States Naval Academy today to promote his illustration when the pilots of the Blue Angels showed up for a media interview. We were thrilled when THEY offered to kindly sign his print. Annapolis is ready and excited to watch the Blue Angels return in full formation above our city to honor the USNA graduates. Practice commences tomorrow, then the actual show is on Wednesday.

Annapolis Film Festival 2014 Intro Animation

A frame from the Annapolis Film Festival's intro animation

We are very impressed with Moe Taylor's animation work for the Annapolis Film Festival. He worked with Joe Barsin's illustration which was created to promote the 2014 festival. Moe's animation was played at the beginning of each of the 70 plus films that were showcased during the 3 day festival. "It made me hungry!", the new cover design for the March issue of FUNWORLD

It is such a welcome thing to receive emails like these from our clients. Read what Jeremy Schoolfield, the Editor of Funworld magazine, writes about the March issue that has just come out:

"Hey Joe, Just wanted you to know I've already received tons of positive feedback about the March cover. Everybody has the same response: 'It made me hungry!' I know that thing was a beast, but we nailed it in the end and I think this is going to be a popular issue for us. So thanks again for the great work."
— Jeremy

This is the perfect response for the cover we worked on together. As Jeremy eluded, this cover went through several creative rounds but that is part of the process which I truly enjoy as an illustrator. In this blog, I have placed some of the concepts we considered before reaching the final cover.

Annapolis Film Festival 2014 poster: The creative process

Annapolis Film Festival 2014 - horizontal composition

AAF 2014 approved poster - vertical compositionThe first annual AFF 2013 was a great success! Joe Barsin of JEB Design was honored to be asked again to create the poster for the 2014 Festival. We show below the creative process that went into the illustration. Joe developed the visual concept from the events tagline, "Talk Movie To Me!"

I wanted to show the range of themes and emotions that movies bring to the audience. From laughter and suspense to science fiction and horror. Also, wanted to represent the Naval Academy with a midshipmen. The concept is important but I also needed to create an illustration that could work horizontal and vertically since my work is used from social media to the printed program and street banners. I hope you enjoy the work. -Joe

Below are the initial sketches that were presented to the AFF team. Its a great process that goes into the creative back and forth to reach the final illustration.
